  The Cryptobranchidae are a family of fully aquatic salamanders commonly known as the giant salamanders.A single species, the hellbender (Cryptobranchus alleganiensis), inhabits the eastern United States, with species also inhabiting China and Japan.They are the largest living amphibians known today.
